For a deck renovation in the Baulkham Hills area of Kellyville, the homeowner wanted us to create an outdoor entertainment area that afforded privacy in a limited amount of space.
To take full advantage of the limited space available, we first tore out the exiting decking and designed a spacious deck that was shaded by a pergola and had a tasteful privacy screen at one end that prevented views of the neighbour’s house.
We utilised Merbau timber to build the deck. This dark and richly-coloured wood is both attractive and long-lasting. It perfectly complements the warm, brick structure of the home. By running the planks longitudinally along the wall of the home, we increased the eye’s perception of increased spaciousness.
A pergola was constructed over the deck which offered protection from the elements while still preserving that open-air feeling. The pergola contained smoked-glass skylights throughout its length to keep the entire space well-lit in the daytime.
With the addition of a discreet privacy screen between the deck and the neighbour’s house an attractive and cleanly designed outdoor area to entertain guests in comfort was created.
The entire home renovation project was completed in approximately two weeks in 2017.
